Welcome Fall 2018 Students!

What is T2K?

Transition to Kean (T2K) is designed to help prepare you for life as a college student, and to help you adjust to the rigors of college life. Specifically, this special section is for incoming RAM (Research Aligned Mentorship) freshmen to serve as an introduction to the fall academic semester as a RAM scholar. At the end of this one week session, RAM students earn a letter grade and academic credit for completion of the T2K course, and do NOT take the course in their freshmen fall semester as do all other Kean freshmen. This course is 1 credit towards graduation and is letter graded, thus it does affect your Kean undergraduate GPA.

  1. The aspects of college is most intimidating to me is probably the assignment/ work, and the aspects of college education that I’m most excited for is working in my design classes. The most intimidating aspects of college is the assignments/ work in regards to English and math classes because college is supposed to be a lot more difficult than high school. So you would have to study and work harder more than ever. Another intimidating aspect of college is really the change/ adjusting to atmosphere and the people around you. Going from being at home, hanging out with your friends everyday ext, to living with people you don’t even know is a huge leap and can be a major change in anyone’s life. But I’m excited about working in my design classes because I’m really passionate and driven when it comes to creating a new project. Also, I’m just ready to bring my designs off of the paper and into existence. Another aspect I’m excited about is having all the resources i need for projects, and meeting other that could possibly help me, or vice versa. In conclusion, i believe if my or anyone is willing to study, work hard, and have fun, your college experience would be well worth it, but you have to want it more than anyone else wants it for you.

  2. I want to persuade a career in interior design because I like to make the most out of what space I have. I like to ensure I can use the space that I have in the most productive way possible. Interior design in itself is really interesting, there’s a lot of different ways to go about designing a space. You can take the typical table and chairs and tweak that into, for example, a nature theme find a set with what looks like vines going throughout the table that incorporate into the chairs to resemble a tree or go very chic and use a lot of marble and hardwood. Every project is going to be different. and I think it’ll be interesting to be going to a consult and not have a clue what the client wants. That really allows you to be exposed to a different style and it provides a challenge. There are also opportunities to see some unique living spaces like tiny houses or beachside bungalows, something that you would have never had been able to see before. But what I really want to be able to do is somehow incorporate psychology into my designs, specifically ways to help people with mental illness. Through interior design I can design the spaces to be as soothing as possible, I’m not saying use pepto bismol pink in every room, but using cool hues like green, blue, and purple can calm someone down just as effectively. I want to focus mostly on commercial design because there is so much freedom in what you can design. Because you're not designing for one specific person there are tons of ways to make the space as fun and unique as possible.
